Info The foreground shows the place where Lake Geneva ends and the Rhone River begins, and for this reason I believe it may also be of encyclopedic relevance. The subject depicts the Pont de la Machine, a pedestrian built in 1887, it is also the oldest engineering structure of the City of Geneva. It depicts also the Quai of Bergues and its 19th century neo-classical and/or elegants buildings. Created, uploaded, nominated by Terragio67 -- Terragio67 (talk) 14:58, 21 May 2025 (UTC)

Info A metal ladder in the building pit for a bank building in Hof, Bavaria, with a little snow. Created and originally uploaded by PantheraLeo1359531; cropped, slightly retouched and nominated by – Aristeas (talk) 14:27, 21 May 2025 (UTC)
Support When I saw PantheraLeo1359531’s photo of the building pit, I immediately liked its restrained beauty and quiet melancholy. The curved line between the open, vertical earth wall and the snow-covered excavation below is elegant, the light snow gives the picture a delicate feel that contrasts with the raw soil, and the ladder leading into nothingness adds a touch of Magritte. I proposed this square crop and a little bit of retouching to focus the image even more on the essentials, esp. the ladder, and PantheraLeo1359531 has approved it. Now we are curious for your opinions ;–). – Aristeas (talk) 14:37, 21 May 2025 (UTC)
Support Minimalist composition with strong vertical balance. The ladder contrasts strikingly with the warm earth and the snow-covered ground. Subtle textures and natural colors enhance the surreal atmosphere. -- Radomianin (talk) 16:32, 21 May 2025 (UTC)

Comment You are still fairly new here, so I'll take it easy. The quality of the photo is not that bad, but it need a bit of better editing and perhaps a crop to suit most people here. It's a bit dark and the white-balance and color noise needs fixing for starters. The bottom crop is not optimal with the cut leg of the cat(s), while the top is very empty. A better framing would be better. This here is a suggestion of what it could look like with a bit more editing (use it if you like). The name is not very good according to the Commons guidelines for file names, but that is not something you should fix now during the nomination. It can wait until it is done. --Cart (talk) 20:22, 21 May 2025 (UTC)

Oppose Insufficient wow factor for me, sorry. I also don't like the yellowish tint (though that could be fixed), and the long exposure effect feels out of place and not aesthetically pleasing like in other long exposure photographs of streams. I think it's because the stream occupies such a small portion of the photo and has a similar color to its surroundings so it blends in instead of standing out. AVDLCZ (talk) 13:43, 21 May 2025 (UTC)

Comment I think it's great but I don't really see why we need another FP of a very similar scene. The fact that the wings are open in this one isn't a sufficient gap in the FP galleries for me to say it merits a second FP. Cmao20 (talk) 08:11, 20 May 2025 (UTC)
Oppose per Cmao20. One of the criteria for FP is the ability to select one, the best, photo from a photoshoot. That means that two so similar photos do not become FP, the best one has already been selected IMO. --Cart (talk) 14:14, 20 May 2025 (UTC)

Done: denoised. --The Cosmonaut (talk) 09:56, 20 May 2025 (UTC)
Support Indeed metaphorical, with plenty of expressive allusions arising from the fog, the building and the flag, and how they stand next to each other and correlate, with the skyscraper spire dissolving into the cloud. And the most powerful reference comes from the black stripe glaring a definite blue tint in cold light, next to the yellow stripe, as they both stand out in cool white haze. There are symbolic connotations on multiple levels, and it’s not bleak at all, but rather contemplative. I don’t understand votes regarding technical quality. It’s sharp and clean, and I actually prefer the original copy. It’s better to just denoise the sky and leave everything else as it is. There are some processing artifacts on the white stripe, possibly from camera’s high-resolution mode capturing movement, but it looks like a minor issue. --Argenberg (talk) 10:49, 20 May 2025 (UTC)
- Thank you very much for your thoughtful input! --The Cosmonaut (talk)
Oppose Sorry, I don't care how metaphorical the photo is and it's not easily recognizable for the average viewer, the quality (detail) is low for such a normal range photo and the wow-factor is eluding me. --Cart (talk) 14:20, 20 May 2025 (UTC)
- How amazing is that an average viewer finally has a champion to speak for them! --The Cosmonaut (talk) 18:34, 20 May 2025 (UTC)
Support Really bizarre seeing a flag of an obsolete state still flying 𐩣𐩫𐩧𐩨 Abo Yemen (𓃵) 15:29, 20 May 2025 (UTC)
- Obsolete is some ways, but not gone. The USSR is the formal successor of the Russian Empire. And the Russian Federation is the legal successor of the USSR. So there is a degree of continuity in a dimension of time. Here are all three major flags that have been used over the last 330+ years of history of the RE/USSR/RF: File:Флагштоки возле парка 300-летия Санкт-Петербурга. 2024. 05.jpg, Category:Flagpoles (Park 300 Years of Saint Petersburg). Who knows, maybe there will be a fourth one in the next 100 years or so. Or, we could just reuse the flags we already have in cycles with little or no alterations. That black-dark blue-yellow-white one looks really nice. --Argenberg (talk) 11:00, 21 May 2025 (UTC)
Comment a little bit about symbolism. Modern Russia is trying to position itself as "a Russian Empire 2.0". The same flags are often seen in the occupied territories of Ukraine since 2014, and can also be seen on the patches of Russian occupiers. See the photo here. This is the occupied territory of Ukraine. -- George Chernilevsky talk 16:46, 20 May 2025 (UTC)
Support Ю. Данилевский (talk) 18:22, 20 May 2025 (UTC)
Oppose Not FP quality IMO.--Ermell (talk) 20:39, 20 May 2025 (UTC)
Comment: regarding technical quality. When the air is so misty like in this scene, there is a considerable loss of detail due to diffusion of light. And it's no different to the human eye, which anyone who has ever walked in the fog would surely recall. But without it, the skyscraper wouldn't be partially hiding in the cloud --The Cosmonaut (talk) 21:17, 20 May 2025 (UTC)
- You can get quite good details in fog as Category:Featured pictures of fog shows, if you don't overdo the denoising. Here the trees that are near the camera have almost no detail at all. --Cart (talk) 21:39, 20 May 2025 (UTC)
- Yes, fog and humidity always eat up visible detail through diffusion, diffraction and polarization. I took another look at the image. The quality of the original copy is good for a 24MP image, fog-wise. There’s tons of fine detail in both the skyscraper and the trees. You might just consider taking the original, denoising the sky and applying a delicate high-frequency sharpening mask on everything else. --Argenberg (talk) 11:00, 21 May 2025 (UTC)
Weak support Without too much on the symbolism of the flag as somebody not very well-read on Russian politics, but the mood captured is nice to me. --UnpetitproleX (Talk) 23:03, 20 May 2025 (UTC)

- Gallery fixed. There may be no FP of this genus, but that gallery is so far for Families and that one exists. Also no idea what you were up to here blanking the new category you created. I've noticed that you are starting to make a lot of mistakes with things like this, so perhaps you should leave such things to coders here. Just post your noms and we'll take care of the "boring" sorting stuff for you. --Cart (talk) 19:07, 18 May 2025 (UTC)
Comment Not sure the stacking is working so well here. There are an awful lot of "shadows/halos" from un-sharp parts of the stacked photos and the stacking goes in and out all over the image. Might be less confusing working with less photos in the stack. --Cart (talk) 19:13, 18 May 2025 (UTC)
Comment A 3D spider's web is the most challenging subject for focus-stacking I know. Try it. Working with less photos doesn't work I'm afraid. And more photos doesn't help either. There is a huge amount of manual cloning needed to create sharp threads that aren't in any of the stack, but you have to stop somewhere. In time the AI models will improve. I happen to think the composition with its random threads works OK. Incidentally, the focus-stacking here is many times more challenging than the recent on the recent 2D web with male and female spiders. And have a closer look at the lovely FP nom of two damselflies. The spiders webs just stop in mid air! Charlesjsharp (talk) 21:40, 18 May 2025 (UTC)
- I know that spiderwebs are a nightmare to stack and that you are doing as well as you can. Believe me, I actually have tried focus stacking spiderwebs and I just gave up since it was so darn difficult to get things to line up and not give off halos. That's why I think it might not be the best way to photograph these kind of things. Couldn't you concentrate the stacking on just the spider and let the net fade in and out of Dof like in a normal photo? Just brainstorming ideas here. Btw, the spiderwebs "ending" in midair is a usual phenomena depending on how the light and shadow hits them and whatever moisture is on them. I think every nature photographer have seen them appear and disappear in their photos. --Cart (talk) 22:08, 18 May 2025 (UTC)

The cropped photo has a resolution of 1797x5052 Px The crop is mainly due to the very elongated shape of the object. The state-of-the-art 24 MP sensor has a maximum pixel ratio of 6.048 x 4.024. - For now, regretful
Oppose: the symmetry is pleasing, but the lens distortion is noticeable and, more concerningly, the paintings and photograph in this picture likely constitute derivative works that do not fall under de minimis. More
Info on the copyright status is requested from Bernard. JayCubby (talk) 22:37, 15 May 2025 (UTC)
- The Potala image is from here which is also on the UNESCO WHS website and the Dalai Lama image is an edited version of a 2003 portrait by this photographer. I could not find anything on the map. The Tibetan parliament themselves produce plenty of images on the interiors (e.g. [1]) including even a full virtual tour. Though I am unsure this image can be (or to what extent) called derivative(s) of any of those works. -- UnpetitproleX (Talk) 23:37, 15 May 2025 (UTC)
- That doesn't stop them from either having a license agreement or straight-up violating copyright. Thanks for searching.
- It's a DW because of how the photos and map are this image's focus, and reproduced fairly clearly. JayCubby (talk) 19:41, 16 May 2025 (UTC)
- I wouldn't call them the focus of the image, but a secondary element. The 'clearly' part is also questionable esp. for the portrait. UnpetitproleX (Talk) 22:26, 16 May 2025 (UTC)

Comment I like most things with a hint of minimalism, and with such "less is always more". I think the image would be much stronger if you cropped away the top just under the net, so you get a clean stark façade. Try it and see what you think. Great quality otherwise. --Cart (talk) 20:24, 21 May 2025 (UTC)

Comment Im am thinking about the comment of Cmao20 and Aristeas regarding the resolution. The cropped photo has a resolution of 1797x5052 Px The crop is mainly due to the very elongated shape of the object. The state-of-the-art 24 MP sensor has a maximum pixel ratio of 6.048 x 4.024. The long side is only cropped to 5052 (compared to 6048 max possible). --Tuxyso (talk) 20:26, 21 May 2025 (UTC)

[2]) including even a full virtual tour.

Oppose Agree with Cart. Nice expression but the noise reduction makes it look kind of uncanny. Cmao20 (talk) 12:59, 14 May 2025 (UTC)

Weak support I like this idea - of having a pic of a mushroom that really gets down at eye level amongst the grass, as if this is a mouse's view or something. The quality is good. The red object in the background is a bit distracting though. Cmao20 (talk) 12:57, 14 May 2025 (UTC)
- @Cmao20 Thx. This red object was probably a bright red flower, but anyway I retouched it now. --Plozessor (talk) 15:47, 14 May 2025 (UTC)
Oppose Sorry but this picture is not special in my view, mainly because the foreground is distracting with its blurry elements -- Basile Morin (talk) 04:01, 15 May 2025 (UTC)
*Neutral The foreground is ok to understand its height and location, but in the background the building and tree are disturbing. -- -donald- (talk) 04:40, 15 May 2025 (UTC)
Support Better now. -- -donald- (talk) 07:31, 16 May 2025 (UTC)
weakSupport I quite like this picture, it's like an insect's pov, but I do feel that a crop to remove the building on the right and a balancing crop on the left to center the mushroom would make it better and remove some of the distracting elements. --UnpetitproleX (Talk) 13:54, 15 May 2025 (UTC)
- @UnpetitproleX Why not? What about now? Plozessor (talk) 15:19, 15 May 2025 (UTC)
- Better to me now, support from me. Pinging other prior voters @Cmao20, Basile Morin, and -donald-: in case they may wish to change their votes/provide inputs. --UnpetitproleX (Talk) 15:27, 15 May 2025 (UTC)

Support To get a real "mouse eye view" with a feeling of depth in the image, a bit of un-sharp foreground objects is inevitable unless you stack. Here they actually accent the magnificence of the mushroom. --Cart (talk) 20:05, 16 May 2025 (UTC)

Support Beautiful light. I think others may regard this photo as somewhat 'low wow' but I enjoy the composition and I love the unusual window Cmao20 (talk) 12:55, 14 May 2025 (UTC)
Support Agree with Cmao20. The light and the contrast with the lush green and the deep blue of the sky make this image beautiful. – Aristeas (talk) 18:42, 14 May 2025 (UTC)
Oppose Crop is too tight at the bottom, in my view. Very mitigated wow factor. Sorry -- Basile Morin (talk) 04:08, 15 May 2025 (UTC)
- Oops, you're right, I had too tight crop in new version. Now fixed. Plozessor (talk) 05:33, 15 May 2025 (UTC)
- A real improvement, thank you, and thanks to Basile for the hint! – Aristeas (talk) 08:33, 16 May 2025 (UTC)

Oppose Not an extraordinary subject IMHO with nothing else that compensates it. The shadow on the facade is also disturbing. Poco a poco (talk) 16:18, 17 May 2025 (UTC)
