Description
English: Ostensorium, probably from the Rhineland, before 1450, inventory no. 29 of the Essen Cathedral Treasury.

Gilded silver, chased, cast, and punched. Museum label description:

OSTENSORIUM Rhineland (?), before 1450 Gilded silver, chased, cast, and punched INV. 29

A labeled strip of paper, a so-called authentic, provides information about the contents of the reliquary. According to it, the glass cylinder contains relics of the belt of the Virgin Mary and the garment of Saint Gertrude, as well as corporeal relics of Saints Barbara, Peter, Cecilia, Petronilla, Eugenia, and Ida.

Above the cylinder stands the crowned Mother of God.

Beneath the side canopies are depictions of a male and a female saint.

Ein beschrifteter Papierstreifen, eine sogenannte Authentik, gibt Auskunft über den Inhalt des Reliquiars. Demnach birgt der Glaszylinder Reliquien vom Gürtel der Maria sowie des Gewandes der heiligen Gertrud, außerdem Körperreliquien der Heiligen Barbara, Petrus, Cäcilia, Petronilla, Eugenia und Ida.

Über dem Zylinder steht die gekrönte Gottesmutter.

Unter den seitlichen Baldachinen sind ein männlicher Heiliger und eine weibliche Heilige dargestellt.
