Goodies, tips, and tricks

Put Babel boxes on your user page so others know what languages you can speak and indicate your graphic abilities.
You can find the files you have uploaded in your Uploads.
Please sign your name on Talk pages by typing ~~~~.
To link to an image page without embedding the image, type: [[:File:Foo.jpg]], which produces: File:Foo.jpg.
You may enable gadgets (custom features) for your account.
There are several tools to upload files.

Hundreds of images that have been rated Featured Pictures by the international Wikimedia Commons community in the past year were entered in this competition. These images include professional animal and plant shots, breathtaking panoramas and skylines, restorations of historical images, photographs portraying the world's best architecture, impressive human portraits, and so much more.

Some tips for FPC

Hi! Just going to leave a couple of easy tips for when you go looking for photos for FPC. First: Look at what year the are made. Almost no digital photos taken before 2015 are becoming FPs these days. That was just before the new generation of sensors were developed. Second: Look at what resolution they have. Before 2015, almost no one had broadband so photographers needed to scale down the resolution, and by that the size of the file, to upload them on the Internet. That means loss of detail. The 3,823 × 4,912 pixels photo you nominated is only 1.18 MB. That was a normal compression rate to upload in 2013. Today we would expect such a photo to be around 7-10 MB, and thus have greater detail. If you look at these two criteria for starters, you will be able to select better images. You can also read the COM:IG to see what we are looking at when we evaluate photos at FPC. When you go searching for photos from Yemen on Flickr for FPC, you should add a year to the search. Like "Yemen 2021" or "Yemen 2023". That way you get better quality photos. All the best, --Cart (talk) 19:30, 16 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]
